Kathryn Melinda (Dowell) Irwin

Kathryn Melinda (Dowell) Irwin, 61, passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side while in hospice care at Union Hospital at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. 

Kathryn was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to Thomas Emmitt Dowell and Betty Irene (Noel) Dowell on August 30, 1962. She was a graduate of Terre Haute South High School. She loved spoiling her cat (Theo), being outdoors, camping, fishing, nature, all animals, cooking, listening to music, writing, and spending time with her family and friends.   

Kathryn is survived by her two daughters, Tabautha-Lynn (Perry) Shaw and Shauna (Cox) Hembroff (Bryan); sister Teresa (Hogue) Hood; eight grandchildren, Anthony Shaw II (Angelina), Jedidiah Shaw (Brynn), Connor Hembroff, Makayla (Shaw) Holliman (Alan), Mackenzie Shaw, Hailey Hembroff, Mylia VanHorn, and Hannah Hembroff; five great-grandchildren, Khalil Holliman, Kahmari Shaw, Hayzen Shaw, Nala Holliman, and Maeva-Lynn Shaw; one niece Angela Rainbolt; four nephews Michael Dowell Jr. (Nichole), David Scott Cheesman (Madonna), Michael Cheesman and Tyler Dowell; many great nieces, great nephews, other family members, and friends.  

Kathryn was perceived in death by her grandparents, Benjamin and Grace (Swickard) Phillips; mother, Betty (Noel) Robbins; father, Thomas Dowell; two brothers, Michael Dowell and Richard Dowell; sister, Tammy (Hogue) Russell; niece, Billie Rae Dowell; along with other family members and friends. 

Kathryn’s wishes were to be cremated and to not have a funeral. Cremation was entrusted to Samaritan Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Collett Park (2414 N. 7th St. Terre Haute, Indiana), at the indoor pavilion, from 4:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
