Patricia Hoopengarner Obituary

Patricia Lucile Hoopengarner, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2019, due to complications of dementia. She was born August 8, 1935 in her beloved grandmother’s home in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Roy and Helen Ellis. While attending high school at Gerstmeyer Tech, she met and fell in love with a soldier in the Air Force named Robert A. Hoopengarner. They married four months after meeting and relocated to Warner Robins Airforce Base in Georgia.

After moving back to Terre Haute, Bob and Pat bought a house in the country where they raised their children and lived the rest of their lives. Pat had many hobbies including growing herbs, baking, and hosting large holiday gatherings. In recent years, Pat provided childcare for many families and loved and nurtured their children. They were her babies for life. She loved her church, St. Margaret Mary and she especially loved the Lord.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2013 and her oldest daughter, Kathy Jo Shafer and her husband, Brad Shafer. Her beloved brother, Ralph Ellis (Karen) and sister, Norma Fawley (Charles) also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Singer (Roger) from New Palestine, Indiana, and her son, Craig Hoopengarner from Terre Haute, Indiana. She had three grandchildren, Nicholas Uhl (Erin) of Greenfield, Indiana, Dane Uhl (Shelly) of New Palestine, Indiana, and Brandon Hoopengarner (Heather) of Terre Haute, Indiana. She had eight great-grandchildren, Addison, Samantha, and Charlotte Uhl, Ian, Gavin, and Paige Uhl, and Ellie and Zoey Hoopengarner. She had several nieces and nephews, all of whom she admired and cherished. Pat treasured her loved ones and embraced every moment with them.

A funeral mass has been planned for Friday, July 12, 2019, at 11:00 at St. Margaret Mary Church in Terre Haute, Indiana.
