Arley Glasgow
Andrews
December 18, 1934 – October 14, 2023
Arley Glasgow Andrews, 88, of Terre Haute, a larger-than-life personality and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Arley was a great provider to his family and was the sort of person who lit-up a room, generous in laughter, with boundless energy. He was born 3 minutes after his twin brother, Harley on December 18, 1934, in Terre Haute, to Harley D. Andrews and Lela L. (Glasgow) Andrews. A 1954 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, Arley played 119 consecutive basketball games, scored 1,890 career points, and is still the school's all-time leading scorer. Arley signed with the Phillies organization as a pitcher after high school. After an auto accident damaged his pitching shoulder, Arley returned to the basketball court at Indiana State University, where he was the leading scorer on the 1959-60 team. He and his twin brother, Harley were inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1989.
Arley worked in construction for many years and retired from Beam, Longest & Neff, Consulting Engineers of Indianapolis. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Shaffer Andrews of Terre Haute, daughter Julie Karn (Tim Hanner) of Bloomington, IN; two grandchildren, Leslie Murphy of Nashville, TN and Jeffrey Karn of Bloomington, IN; a great-grandson, Kamren Ranard of Bloomington, IN, his twin brother Harley Andrews and wife Thelma of Clay City, brother, Johnny Andrews and wife Mary Loretta of West Terre Haute, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Danny Andrews, daughter Barbara Andrews Murphy, and sisters; Vera Andrews Marshall and Patty Andrews Johnson. The family would like to thank Hands That Serve, InHome Connect (Tori Timmons), and Heart to Heart Hospice for caring for Arley and Carolyn in the last year and to Comfort Keepers and Amedisys for years of care. A family celebration of life will be planned for a later date
