Obituary

TERRE HAUTE - Berthold (Bert) Dieter, Jr., 77, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 in his residence. He was born April 25, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa to Terese and Bert Dieter, Sr.
Bert attended Loras College where he received his Bachelor's degree and the University of Notre Dame where he received his Master's degree. After being co-owner of a playground company for several years, he taught Art at Gibault School for 16 years before retirement. He enjoyed creating art, being outside, and working on projects both inside his home and in the community. He was a wonderful loving husband, a compassionate and supportive father, and a caring and humorous friend. Bert had a kind, generous heart, and a gentle soul. His creativity, strong intellect, sense of humor, and warm smile will remain with all he encountered.
Bert is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy Dieter; his daughters, Katie Dieter and Molly Washatka (Grady); and his two grandchildren, Wyatt and Willow Washatka.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 12:00pm at St. Margaret Mary Church at 2405 S. 7th Street in Terre Haute, Indiana with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to the services from 10:00am-12:00pm in the church. To continue Bert's generous service to others, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities, 1801 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803.

Bert would like to announce that his work here is complete as he received a call for a new mission he could not refuse. He was a man of God and was called to his greatest service, where he will be able to paint to his heart's content, reconnect with loved ones he has not seen in a long time, and eat ice cream in abundance. Even in the afterlife, Bert continues to be of service to others, so in lieu of flowers, he has requested that donations be made to Catholic Charities. Bert left explicit instructions for his wife, daughters, family, and friends to celebrate his life and beautiful transition into heaven.
