Obituary

Bill McKeehan, 85, of West Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 26, 2022. His passing followed a short, but aggressive lung cancer illness. Bill was born at home in Corbin, Kentucky, to Benjamin Stanford McKeehan and China Ethel Rhodes, on February 26,1937. As the result of a blended family, Bill had five siblings and is survived by his 95-year-old brother, Lester "Dallas" McKeehan, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Dallas introduced Bill to the great outdoors. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, shooting, trap shooting, mushroom hunting and shooting for fun. He was known far and wide as quite a marksman. Bill delighted and wowed many people by shooting a penny in the air after it was tossed by that person. It was quite a conversation piece for the person who got to keep the pierced coin. He wasn't known to miss.

As a younger man, Bill developed a relationship of love and respect for the Wabash River. Early in the morning he could be found checking his commercial fishing nets for river fish. Bill shared his love of the outdoors with his children who were born to Patricia Lee Donahue McKeehan. Bill is survived by Peggy Coan and her husband Herman Coan of Cloverdale, Indiana; Lisa McKeehan, of Terre Haute. Bill's son, Billy Lee McKeehan, Jr., died last year. Bill is also survived by Lisa Fugate, who was like a daughter to him. He has 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

At the age of 70, Bill found and married his childhood sweetheart, Sharon L. Pierce (Michael). Aside from volunteering at the food pantry, Sharon and Bill loved to play cards and go fishing. Sharon was the love of Bill's life, and they made each other very happy in the 4 years that they were married before her death. A military service will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 1:00pm in Roselawn Cemetery. Burial will follow immediately. There will be no visitation or funeral service as most of Bills friends and close relatives have already passed away. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Samaritan Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made to www.samartianfunerals.com.
