Obituary

Brenda Faye Davis, age 60, of Mound Bayou, Mississippi, passed away on December 4, 2020.  She was born July 24, 1960 to the late Vernell Johnson and Robert Miles.  She attended John F. Kennedy High school, Mound Bayou Mississippi.


Brenda moved to Gary, Indiana where she spent most of her adult life.  She married Melvin Anthony Davis on June 1, 1996.  She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother.   She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and taking care of her family.  Her favorite television shows were those soap operas.   We all know she spent a lot of time enjoying every show.  She also loved watching western movies and HGTV.


Brenda worked in the retail industry for Payless Shoes for many years.  When she moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, she was employed by Sodexo in Dinning Services on the campus of Indiana State University.  The Sodexo staff enjoyed working with Brenda.  She also developed so many relationships with students as she checked them in the dining hall during breakfast, lunch and dinner.


She was preceded in death by her parents Vernell Johnson, Ollie Mae Sanders (Madea) and Robert Miles, grandmother Carrie Poindexter, brother Eddie Jones, Sisters Carrie Sanders and Mercedes Johnson, nieces Vernell (Tulu) and Ykeema Johnson.


Brenda is survived by her husband, Melvin Davis of Terre Haute, IN; mother in law, Doris Hall (Granny) of Milwaukee, WI; brother Michael Johnson, Mound Bayou, MS;  brother and wife Bennie (Cookie) and Lisa Davis, Mound Bayou, MS;  sister and husband Jacqueline (Jackie) and Tony Williams, Dallas, TX;  brother and wife Christopher (Nuppie) and Colletta (Dee Dee) Johnson, Jackson, AK;  sister Shelia Johnson, Bellwood, IL; sister in laws, Brenda Hall; Terre Haute IN; Debra Jackson and Gail Hall, Milwaukee; children: Keith Johnson, Erica Johnson, Melvin and Rhonda Johnson, Christopher Johnson Sr. and Keisha Ward, Eric and Shara Davis, Anthony and Jamia Davis; grandchildren: Asia, Christopher Jr, Christian, Khadjiah, EMari, Christyal, Jordan, DaShawn, Marcus, Peyton, Breiajana, Alexus, Melvin Jr, Angeliyah, Dajah, Eriana, Kylan, Kenadi, Phillip, Jamariah and a host of nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held Saturday December 19, 2020 at Samaritan Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 11: am. Private family services will be held afterwards.  Online condolences may be made to www.samaritanfunerals.com.
