Carrie Jo Pinson was born June 19, 1939 to the late George Porter and Rosetta Johnson Porter in Sebree, Kentucky. Her Family moved t Terre Haute, Indiana where she attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School, and Sarah Scott Jr. High School, graduating from Wiley High School in 1956. At an early age, Clara Jo was baptized and received the Holy Ghost at Bethlehem Temple Church under the pastorate of Elder Melvin Bateman. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois working as a caregiver. She met the love of her life, Arthur Pinson; they were united in marriage and moved to Racine, Wisconsin where she remained for many years. She returned to Terre Haute for health reasons.
She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur Pinson, father George Porter, stepfather George Lyle, mother Rosetta Lyle, and one sister Diane Washington. Clara is survived by two sisters Dorothy Phillips (Robert deceased), Teresita Lewis (Maynard), two brothers Curtis Lyle (Laura), B. Michael Lyle (Bertha), one uncle Herley Johnson (Lena), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; Clara's adopted family Magrit and Drenna Jackson, and Dorothy Jones, and special niece Karla Burks. Clara Jo was appreciated and loved by so many.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Springhill Village for their love and dedicated care provided to her and to the Kindred Hospice Group for their care of Carrie's final months.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Grandview Cemetery. Viewing will be at the cemetery from 11:30 a.m. until service time. Reverend John Mark Lewis will be officiating. Samaritan Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.samaritanfunerals.com.
