April 15, 1925 – January 19, 2016
Clarence M. Hood, 90, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday January 19, 2016 at 1:20 pm in his residence. Clarence was a watchmaker and owner of Hood Watch Shop. He was born April 15, 1925 in Sullivan County to Clarence Hood and Lily (Maxwell) Hood. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary A. (Metcalf) Hood; daughters, Carol Belfi and husband Bob of The Villages, FL and Cynthia "Cindy" Norman and husband Michael of Ortonville, MI; a son, Robert "Bob" Hood and wife Ruth of Terre Haute; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel "Dan" Hood, who died September 16, 2001, a sister, LaNora Bingham and a brother Max Hood. Clarence was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a former member of Central Christian church and more recently was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ. Prior to opening his watch shop he graduated from the Terre Haute School of Watchmaking, he then worked for Hillman Jewelers then went to work at the Snap Shop in The Meadows and then he made the decision to open his own watch shop. Clarence was a member and past president of the American Watch and Clock Association, a member of the Indiana Horological Association, he was a licensed pilot, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a life member of the Terre Haute Boy's Club, a member of the church bowling league. He was also a member and active in the Breakfast Optimist Club and the 12 Points Business Association. One on his proudest accomplishments was keeping the clock on the tower at Woodrow Wilson Middle School going, starting in May 1966 until he was no longer able to do it. Visitation will be Friday January 22, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. with funeral services on Saturday January 23, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either, American Heart Association, Hospice of the Wabash Valley, or Bethany United Church of Christ.
