Donald Ray Hines, age 69, passed away Tuesday, September 13th, 2022 at Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born April 11th, 1953 in Linton, Indiana to the late Alfred "Abe" and Esther Hines.
Don grew up in Worthington, Indiana. He enjoyed racing go-karts with his dad and water skiing, boating, and fishing with his family. He was a varsity athlete as a member of the baseball, basketball, and track teams for the Worthington Ramblers. He held a record for the career points leader for basketball for many years.
Don attended Indiana University for 1 year after high school and then went to Harold's Beauty Academy to get his cosmetology license.
In 1978, Don and his wife of 29 years, Tena Hineman, opened and ran their hair salon called Mane Improvement in Bloomington, IN, for 5 years. In 1983, they sold their salon, and went to work at A Cut Above in Bloomington, where they worked for 15 years. They later opened up their own hair salon which was out of their house on Main St. in Worthington, IN, called Main Improvement, where they worked together for many years. Don also got his CDL license and drove a semi truck for several years.
Don loved spending time with his family and coached several of of his kids' basketball and softball teams. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as mushroom hunting, fishing, golfing, attending concerts, and camping.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred "Abe" and Esther Hines. He is survived by his ex wife of 29 years, Tena Hineman; His close companion, Nancy Bennett; His children, Jason (Carrie) Hines, Jessica (Shawn) Clifford, Lindsey (Anthony) DiLorenzo; A sister, Cathy Grimm; His grandchildren, Maddison Hines, Brylee DiLorenzo, Brody DiLorenzo, and Presley Clifford.
All friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial to celebrate Don's life. It will be held in the Hinchman shelter house at the Worthington Park on Saturday, October 1st from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
