Obituary

Frances "Paddle" Miller passed away peacefully on February 27, 2022 with her children by her side.

She was born on May 13, 1921 in Terre Haute to Louise and Harry Rowe.

Paddle was a 1939 Wiley High School graduate where she made lifelong friendships. She attended Indiana Business College and one of her first jobs was at the Terre Haute Brewing Company as an executive secretary to the President.  During the war, she worked as an executive secretary for the president at the Newport Army Ammunition plant.  She was involved in many community clubs, including the Terre Haute Symphony, Swope Art League, Women's Department Club and the Sycamore Club.  Frances was a den mother and belonged to both the Saint Margaret Mary, Schulte High School and IU-ATO mothers clubs.  She was on the planning committee for the construction of the current St Margaret Mary's Church where she was a parishioner for many years and at St. Benedicts prior to her move to Georgia. She along with two friends opened the Bridal Cottage where they helped many brides find their perfect dress.

She married Daniel C. Burke in 1942.  Sadly, he was killed in action in Germany and she was left to raise their son, Daniel C. Burke, III.  After the war she married Lawrence A Denning, Jr and together they raised 5 children before his untimely death in 1975 to ALS.  Through good friends, Bill and Effie Giffel she was introduced to Howard Miller and they were married and enjoyed 22 years together before his death in 2002.

Frances was predeceased by her parents, Harry Rowe and Louise Knadler Rowe, her sister and brother, Margaret Thompson and Robert Rowe, and her husbands, Daniel C Burke, Lawrence Denning and Howard Miller and her beloved golden retriever Barney and orange tabby Fred.
