Obituary

Howard Allan Smith, Jr., 61, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at home surrounded by family, after his four-year courageous battle with Melanoma.  He was born November 11, 1962, in Terre Haute to Howard A. Smith, Sr. and Sharon Faye Owen Smith. Howard was a 1981 graduate of Terre Haute South and earned an associates degree in electronics from Ivy Tech.  He worked at Duff's during high school and Service Merchandise during college. He went on to work for ADT for over 30 years and QSI as a service engineer for two years. He was a member of Prairieton United Methodist Church.   Howard was an avid fly fisherman, beekeeper, and tropical fish enthusiast.  He loved spending time with family and friends.  They would visit Bennett Springs, Missouri often.


Howard is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia Marina Smith, daughter Hannah E. Smith Stowe (Anthony), mother Sharon F. Smith, mother- in- law Mildred L. Marina, sister Melinda Seaton (Darrell Bayless), sisters- in- law Millie Noland (Terry) and Angie Marina (John Carpenter), niece Kristen Yoho (Justin) and family; nephew Donald White II, niece Haley Logan (David Holt) and family; and his beloved kitty Grey.  He is also survived by close friends Don Pendelton fellow fly fisherman, John McGuire fellow fly fisherman and beekeeper, and Irving Bagley fellow tropical fish enthusiast. Howard was preceded in death by his father Howard A. Smith, Sr. and father-in-law Fredrick Marina, as well as other extended family members.


A memorial will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel located at 85 East Springhill Drive, Terre Haute.  The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Pendleton will officiate.  The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Southern Care Hospice, including Penny, Dawn, and Harley for the love and care given to Howard and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Howard to the Terre Haute Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
