James "Bud" Gerald Godfrey, 78, passed away January 13, 2024. He was born on July 6, 1945, in Vincennes to Gerald Godfrey and Betty (Grange) Williams. Bud married Angela (Byrd) Godfrey on September 11, 1978. He enjoyed hunting with his dogs and going to the French Club. He was also President of Indiana Squirrel Hunters for many years, and he was a member of Jumping Mustangs.
Bud was a proud Army veteran receiving numerous awards for his service including Expert Badge (M-14 Rifle), Sharpshooter Badge (Automatic Rifle), Expert Badge (45 Caliber Pistol), Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal (with 60 Device), Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Amry Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, son Joshua Godfrey (Jamie) of Waxahachie, TX, daughters Lori Rider of Alabama, Tonya Beasley (Donald) of Alabama, Angela Watts (Ray) of Vincennes, and Amy Richards (Kevin) of Vincennes; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both parents, brother Kenneth "Mick" Godfrey, infant brother Johnny Godfrey, and sister Sally Vash.
A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, January 21, at the Bicknell French Club from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Cremation was entrusted to Samaritan Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.samaritanfunerals.com.
