Jane Frances Mundy Sabel, age 82, of Terre Haute, IN, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026. Janie was born at home on August 23, 1943, in West Pittston, PA to William Thomas Mundy and Helen McHale Mundy. She lived in West Pittston until she moved to Pittsburgh to start her nursing career. Eventually, when her first grand child was born in 2006, she settled in Terre Haute, IN.
As a devoted sister, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Christine Sabel Gordon of Terre Haute, IN; her sister, Margaret Patricia Princenthal of Atlanta, GA, her sister Claire Bramlette of North Carolina; her brother Thomas Mundy of Wilkes Barre, PA ; her granddaughter Reagan Gordon ( Wesley Mickelson) of Shelburn, IN; her granddaughter, Mekenzie Gordon of Terre Haute, IN; and her grandson, Tristan Gordon of Terre Haute, IN. She was proceeded in death by her parents; her brother, William Mundy; her sister, Mary Ellen Schwartz; and her son in law, Andrew Gordon.
Janie devoted her life to her nursing career and to her family. She loved to help others and was one of the most genuine and hardest working people on earth. She also found joy in playing bingo, an occasional trip to the casino, crocheting; playing cards with friends; traveling with family and friends; mending clothes for her family; reading; making her signature dishes like egg salad; spinning her stories, cuddling with her pets and most of all just spending time with her family. Known for her infectious laugh, her unconditional love, her stories, her kindness, and unwavering faith, she touched the lives of everyone she met. Her home was always welcoming, her hugs were always there for you, and her generosity was constantly available. She was a devout Catholic and lived by the church’s values. Her legacy will live on through her loved ones and the amazing memories she created.
Visitation will be Thursday May 21 ,2026 at the Samaritan Funeral Home (2425 Wabash Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47807) from 11-1pm with funeral services immediately following.
