Jay Alan
Horn
July 11, 1960 – January 27, 2022
Jay Alan Horn, 61, passed away on January 27, 2022. He was born July 11, 1960, in Findlay, Ohio to Jim and Barbara Horn. Jay and his wife Shelly resided in Terre Haute for the past 30 years.
Jay graduated from Lawrenceville High School in 1978. He was employed by Taghleef (AET) and worked as a specialized mechanic for 23 years.
Jay grew up at Lake Lawrence surrounded by friends and family. As a kid, he worked summers in the blueberries and potato fields with his lifelong friends. They would come home smelling like rotten potatoes (from nasty tater fights of course) and jump right into the lake to cool off. Such a simple, beautiful (stinky) way to grow up!
Jay was a hard worker and was always there to help others. He never met a stranger and would often pick up hitchhikers or help people stranded on the road.
He and Shelly also loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harleys. Jay had a big heart and always participated in the Harley Rides for kids (ABATE-Toys For Tots). He also enjoyed watching the little kids ride Go-Carts at the local track in Terre Haute. Jay and Shelly shared the Harley fever and enjoyed listening to the Grateful Dead while on their bike trips. Taking the bike out was also code for "let's get something to eat."
Jay is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shelly, their beloved cats Thelma & Louise, brother Jim and his wife Donna, sister Karri, and brother in law Darren. He is also survived by three nieces, one nephew, five great nephews, four great nieces, and many cousins all of which he loved dearly.
Jay's wishes were to be cremated with no memorial service. You all know that Jay liked things simple, and he just didn't want the fuss. Samaritan Funeral Home was entrusted with cremation. Online condolences may be made to www.samaritanfunerals.com.
If you would like to make a memorial donation to Harley Rides For Kids (ABATE)- Toys For Tots in your local area, or to the Terre Haute Humane Society, 1800 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN. 47803, I know he would be pleased.
It's been said, "Some people are so afraid to die that they never begin to live." That was not Jay. He worked hard and played hard…. He was taken much too soon, but he lived!
So when you see a Harley going down the road, give it a wave and think of Jay. I know there will be an angel smiling down on you….. he would want us all to pay it forward!
Below is one of Jay's favorite lyrics from The Grateful Dead, "Uncle John's Band."

It's the same story the crow told me;
It's the only one he knows.
Like the morning sun you come,
And like the wind you go❤️
