Jo Ann Smith, 75 of Terre Haute, passed away at 11:33 a.m. on November 18, 2017 at Regional Hospital. She was born September 16, 1942 to Carl LeRoy Scarbrough and Maezell (Pilgram) Scarbrough in Jackson, Mississippi. Jo Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Smith, Sr.; three grandchildren Jimmy Dan Shuler, Latina Wyatt, and Kelsey Mundell; and one great-grandson Kayson.
She is survived by her brother John Scarbrough (Beverly) of Birmingham, AL; her three sons, Danny Jo Shuler, Richard Lee Smith, Jr, and James Scot Smith all of Terre Haute; four daughter, Cathy Jo Wyatt, Denise Lynn Smith, and Margaret Ann Mundell (Nick) and April Joab (Eric) all of Terre Haute; 13 grandchildren : Matthew Shuler (Terri Archer), Kelli Smith, Kyle Wyatt, Chelsea Smith (James Taylor), Cody Wilson, Dylan Smith, Cory Wilson, Carlee Elkins, Kylie Wilson (Andres Cuachoca), Nicholas Mundell, Danny Smith, and Caitlynn Rodgers; 13 great-grandchildren Aubriana, Caiden, Noah, Taylee, James "Trace" Josiah, Trenton, Oakleigh, Sophia Anna Marie, Marianna, King, Jaymeson, and Skylee.
Jo Ann lived her life for her family and everyone around her. She took care of everyone and opened her home to anyone in need. She ran a daycare in her younger days and considered them family. She was the famous "Grandma Jo." She loved making her family's favorite desserts from her Bell Cookbook.* She had a special place in her heart for the two people who were there till the end; Scot and Auby. Visitation will be Monday November 27, 2017 in Samaritan Funeral Home from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm with funeral services at 3:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Helms officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Scot's name. Online condolences may be left at www.samaritanfunerals.com
