Joanna Rose DeBruhl, 71, of Sullivan, formally of Indianapolis, passed away on May 10, 2019 in Sullivan, at home, surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be Friday, May 31, 2019 from 12pm-9pm, at Worthington Community Building in the Worthington Park. Address is 228 N. Dayton St. Worthington IN 47471. Cremation by Samaritan Funeral and Cremation Services.
Joanna was born in West Baden to David Edward, and Edythe Kathryn Hopper on July 27, 1947. She married David J. DeBruhl on June 26, 1965 in Indianapolis. She retired from Indianapolis Public Schools where she worked as a School Secretary at IPS #15. She was a very avid reader, and non-published author, enjoyed bird watching, she loved nature and spent many years fishing and camping with family. She loved telling stories both fiction and non-fiction. Her love of children lead her to her career choice and after retiring she enjoyed spending time with her grand children and great grand children,
Joanna is preceded in death by her husband, David J. DeBruhl, parents, David E. and Edythe K. Hopper, son, David J DeBruhl II, Sisters, Julia Cook, Janelea Beard, Jannell Allen, Sheila Hadsell, and Jaquita. Brothers, David, John, and James Hopper. Many other family and loved ones.
Joanna is survived by her children, Dawn (James) Speed, Daniel (Cheryl) DeBruhl, Shade (Gerald) Westgate. Grandchildren, Daniel (Abby), Drew (Amber), Dinah (David), Thomas (Taylor), David, Kateland (Luke), Robert, Quintin, Donovan, Jamie, Jayden, Andrea, and Skyla. Great-Grandchildren, Ariah, Leia, Dillion, Dalton, Demi, Jaydon, and Hallee. Many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in law, many friends, and her beloved dog Otto.
