John Edward Dreher,68, of Terre Haute and Danville, IL passed away December 18, 2022.  He was born July 1, 1954 in Danville, IL to George Edward Dreher and Faye (Oakes) Dreher.  He married Barbara Perigo on July 9, 1973.  They then moved to Danville in 1974. They have no children.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his sister Harriett, and a brother David.  When Danville, IL changed governmental form in 1987, he was elected to the city council and served in that capacity until 1997.  During his tenure, he wrote and passed a historic preservation ordinance for the city.  He took the position of Community Development Manager with the city in 1997 helping to create and advise neighborhood associations and as adviser to the Historic Preservation Commission.  He administered grants for the city and also for smaller communities in the area.  He was elected to the Vermillion County, IL board in 200 and served 2001 to 2015.  He retired in 2015.  He and Barbara moved to Terre Haute to be closer to Barbara's family.  John loved music, carpentry, cooking, and restoring old homes.  In his time with the city, he helped renovate and repair hundreds of homes for city residents through the grants he administered.  He did custom carpentry and made special items for others.  He and Barbara spent 49 years attending powwows all over the Midwest and made the trip to Crow Fair in 1994.  John won many awards at powwow craft shows for his beadwork and regalia in the Crow style.  Visitation for John will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at Samaritan Funeral Home from 3:00-6:00 PM.  Barbara would like to thank the nurses and caregivers of Elara Care for their service and attention.
