Jonathan "Mark" Akers, 67, passed away on November 30, 2023. He was born on September 23, 1956 in Madison, IN to Jonathan Akers and Shirley (Norman) Akers. He graduated with a master's degree from both Hanover College and Indiana State University. He loved working as a special education teacher for 29 years for Brownstown High School along with being the basketball and tennis coach. He was also the pastor for 11 years at Samaria Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years Jeanne (McNabb) Akers, daughter Ashley Akers (Stephen), stepdaughter Mikki Sinn (David), grandchildren Zeta Brown and Zoey Neal, mother-in-law Mary Ellen McNabb, brother-in-law Patrick McNabb, and several siblings. He is preceded in death by both his parents.

Cremation was entrusted to Samaritan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Indiana Donor Network Foundation.
