Obituary

Landis "Big Homey" Fairrow was born to Stella and William Fairrow Sr. in 1952 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Landis took his last breath on January 3, 2023, at the age of 70.


Landis was a 1972 graduate of Terre Haute South High School. Later in life he attended Ivy Tech Community College and earned his Associate degree in Heating and Cooling.


Landis had a passion for coaching. In 1979, Landis started coaching for the Falcons, a community youth football league. He influenced many young men's lives for over 10 years. His passion for teaching football impacted many young men while encouraging academic excellence. Landis was also a diehard Chicago Bears fan.


Landis was also involved with Sportsmen for Youth Club for 16 years and helped many young men with scholarships for college.


Landis was employed at J. I. Case for 15 years until the company closed its doors. Landis was also employed with Wabash Fibre Box for 5 years before the company merged, at that time Landis had seen an opportunity to start his own business and left Wabash Fibre Box.


In April of 1999, a dream finally came true for Landis "Big Homey," the birth of HOMEY's Que and Grill. With the help of his wife, Jackie Fairrow and family, Homey's became a huge success. People came from all over to get a taste of Homeys deliciousness. He was Terre Haute's pit master for over 20 years.


Homeys was a family affair. It all started years ago… "you can always get a good meal on the hill" the Fairrow quote. Back in the day, Landis and Jackie would hosts many gatherings from barbecues to family dinners; from birthday parties to just because we family gatherings; always barbecuing… always cooking. Family and friends all gathered around having a good time, dancing and singing or playing cards.


Homeys Que and Grill was just the same. Family and friends would all gather at the restaurant for family events, special holidays and memorials. Homeys was a "home away from home." Where you could come and hang out, talk politics, sports and of course get the latest news around Terre Haute.


Landis Fairrow also known as "Big Homey," who was about Family, Friends, Peace, Love and Happiness!


Landis was preceded in death by his parents, Stella and William Fairrow Sr., two brothers Leslie Fairrow, William Fairrow, and sister, Beverly Fairrow Pugh.


Landis leaves memories to be cherished by his sweet wife of 43 years, Jackie Booker-Fairrow of Terre Haute, IN; two daughters Jamie Sue Booker of Las Vegas, NV and Arlandra White (Wesley) of Terre Haute, IN; two sons Landis Fairrow Jr. (JR) and Lamar Fairrow, both of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren Sean L Brewer II, Jae-ola Brewer, Landis Fairrow III, (Trey), Adilaya Peterson, Bella Fairrow, Aliciana Fairrow, Arrik White, Brenten Fairrow, Camilla Fairrow and host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and close friends.


The memorial will be held at St Paul's Missionary Baptist Fellowship Hall, on Jan. 29, 2023, from 2-5pm EST. Online condolences may be left at www.samaritanfunerals.com.
