Linda Sue
Cook
October 25, 1942 – June 1, 2018
Linda Sue Cook (nee Fred) passed away June 1 at IU Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. She was born October 25, 1942. A 1960 graduate of Wiley High School, she also earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in elementary education from Indiana State University. She was preceded in death by her father Carlos L. Fred and her mother Violet E. McMurray.
Linda was a life long educator. She taught elementary school in Des Planes Illinois, Vigo County, and Clay County. She was also an adjunct Professor of Education at the University of Michigan. Her last teaching experience was a fourth grade at Eastside Elementary School in Brazil. She had a passion for creating an active, involved learning environment for her students where each child could be involved. She missed teaching following retirement but was always glad she retired before the politicians decided they knew more about education than the educators.
Linda was also an avid reader and enjoyed working in her flower gardens and with her plants. Her greatest joy was spending time with her sons and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Fred Cook, sons Chris and daughter-in-law Becky and their children Alyssa, Austin, Trevor, and Makenna of Brazil; son Dr. Devon Cook and daughter-in-law Robin and their son Carson of Newburgh; son Dr. Sean Cook and daughter-in-law Amanda and their children Alex, Caroline and Jolie of Boonville. Linda was a one-in-a-million woman and died of a one-in-a-million disease. Per Linda's direction, she will be cremated. There are no services scheduled.
