Obituary

-Lloyd "Vic" Victor Porter of Hillsdale, IN was born on February 13, 1943, in Coeburn, VA and passed away on October 30, 2023.


-He is survived by his wife, Lori Anne Porter (Mayes), his children Scott (Ronny) Porter, Liberty Hill, TX, Renee (Frank) Bradberry, Atoka, TN, Elizabeth "Lisa" (Mike) Pearman, Hillsdale, IN and Jeremy (Linda) Porter, San Antonio, TX.  Vic had 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.


-He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Bud and Virginia Kaiser Porter, his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Norma Porter, all of Coeburn, Virgnia.  His mother and father-in law, Jean and Harold Mayes, Hillsdale, IN. His best friend since childhood, Eddy Hamm, Dungannon, VA.


-When he was 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force as a civil engineer and traveled the world.  During his 24-year career, he was stationed in the following locations:


Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio TX


Glasgow Air Force Base, Glasgow MT


Ubon, Thailand Air Base where he served in Vietnam


McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida


Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO


Iraklion Air Force Base, Crete, Greece


Mather Air Force Base, Sacramenta, CA


King Salmon Airport (Kodiak Island), King Salmon, Alaska


Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, IL


-On May 21, 1983, he married the love of his life, Lori Anne Mayes in Rantoul, IL.  They met while both serving at Chanute Air Force Base. After his assistance in closing Chanute Air Force Base, they built their home in Hillsdale where he spent the remainder of his life.


-As a couple, Vic and Lori were very active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and 4H.  Vic loved camping, fishing, and hunting and was able to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them to also love the outdoors.  Vic will fondly be remembered for his many "Vic Fits" by both family and friends.  He also loved to travel, including returning to Virgnia to make molasses. Vic enjoyed horses, amusement parks, gardening, carpentry, and animals, especially his cats and dogs.  His favorite holiday to celebrate and decorate for was Halloween.


-Vic taught his children about patriotism, the flag, and serving our country.  He was so proud of those that served, especially his children and grandchildren, his son Scott, daughter Renee, son Jeremy, grandsons Michael and Jimmy.


There will be a celebration of his life during the Summer of 2024.
