Mary Elizabeth Casper was born in Vigo County on October 21, 1924 to Irene and
Paul Christian. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Glenn High
School.
After high school she worked in her grandparents' grocery store, Chernays Grocery, on the corner of 19th and Linden Street. While working there she met her future husband, Joseph E. Casper Sr., a salesman for Hulman & Co. They were married February 10, 1949, and were blessed to have three children.
She graduated from nursing school and worked for Saint Anthony Hospital until her retirement. As a member of Holy Rosary Parish in Seelyville, she attended mass regularly. She enjoyed knitting, crochet and making Sunday breakfast and holiday meals for the family. Her homemade biscuits and gravy, cherry roll, raisin bread and walnut rolls were family favorites.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Irene Christian, husband Joseph E. Casper Sr., daughter and son-in-law Susanne and Kevin Tyler, brother and sister-in-law Steve and Thelma Christian, and sister-in-law Gladys Christian.
She is survived by her brother Paul Christian, children; Mary Ann Barro and husband
John, with whom she has resided with for the last 10 years, Joseph E Casper II and wife Jana, grandchildren: Sara Fears and husband Troy, Clint Casper and wife Jenn, Marissa Zheng and husband Pi, Kristin Tyler, Felicia Barro, John Michael Barro, and 5 great grandchildren.
Mary prayed the Rosary daily. To honor her life, the family invites friends to join with them at Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Avenue, with visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and to pray the rosary at 7:00 pm on Tuesday December 15, 2015. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Wednesday December 16, 2015 at 11:00 am with Father Matthew Malek officiating. Burial immediately following in Calvary Cemetery. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Haven, P.O. Box 3305, Terre Haute, IN 47803 in Mary's memory.
