Mary Jean O’Vivion, 80, of Carbon, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. Mary Jean was born on February 2, 1946, in Terre Haute to Wayne McMasters and Mary Aarnick Nickless. She was a homemaker until the age of 44, raising her four children. Mary Jean then began a career working at Square Donuts for the next 27 years, until her retirement. She enjoyed crafting, playing cards, crocheting, canning and sewing. She was a social butterfly. To Mary Jean, her family was everything. Being together during holidays, having the house full of her kids and grandchildren brought her so much happiness. She will be missed beyond measure.

She is survived by her children LeRoy O’Vivion (dc. Patricia), Michael O’Vivion, II (Shirley), Jacqueline Mattox (Chet), and  Mary Fugate, ten beloved grandchildren and several great grandchildren; sister Rita Jenkins, brother Micheal Holmes (Angie), and cousin Lugene Crippes. Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 18 years, James H. O’Vivion, Sr., who passed away on October 14, 1990; sister Margorie Grinstead, brother Johnny Nickless, aunt Charlotte Crippes and uncle Ray Crippes.

A private burial will be held. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care for the love and care given to Mary Jean and the family.
