Mary Ellen (Southern) Allen, 83, of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026. She was born to William Southern and Mabel (Wood) Southern on March 20, 1943 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

Mary enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was lovingly known for her cookies at her prior place of employment, Donnelly Directory. She would volunteer at Booker T. Washington as a cook in the soup kitchen. Mary was featured in news articles for her dedication and hard work.

Mary is preceded in death by both of her parents; and twin sisters, Carolyn Southern and Yvonne Sutton.

Mary is survived by her brother; David Southern; niece, Carol Brinston; and best friend, Rita Anderson.

Visitation for Mary will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 10:00 am at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Terre Haute. Service will begin at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.samaritanfunerals.com
