Obituary

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Mary Julia Wassel, 101, of Lewis, IN, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at 10:44 p.m. at Southwood Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation in Terre Haute. Mary was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Seelyville to Stephen Marcinko and Julia (Fenchik) Marcinko.


She is survived by her sons, Hilary Wassel (Janet), Wilfred Wassel (Brigitte), Quentin Wassel (Betsy), Albin Wassel, Jr. (Nina), Anthony Wassel, and Peter Wassel (Mary); daughters Regina Provencher (Jim), Julia Farr (Tom), Rosemarie Campbell (Dwane); 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and, several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Albin Wassel, who died August 28, 1983; brothers, Steve Marcinko, and Joe Marcinko; and sisters, Helen Setzer and Amelia Higham.


Mary was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the N.F.O. (National Farmer's Organization). She was an avid gardener, a fantastic cook, and she loved canning, flowers and birds.
