Obituary

Maurice "Moose" Allen Malicoat, Jr., 49, of Poland, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.  He was born on September 24, 1975 in Indianapolis to Maurice Malicoat, Sr. and Phyllis Elliott Stanton.  Moose was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping and fishing.  He was the best mushroom hunter.  He was very competitive at Euchre and hated to lose.  He was also a very skilled cornhole player.  Moose was an extraordinary builder.  He was a jack of all trades but a definite master of many. Moose was a long-time employee who loved his job working for Mike and Jamie Baird whom treated him like family at Premier Logging. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.


Moose is survived by his wife of 10 years, Paula Sturgis, children Daylin Miller, Dru Miller and Carson Malicoat, brother Jason Woods (Misty); aunts and uncles, Glenn Elliott, Barbara Hopkins, Larry Elliott, Bob Brown, William Malicoat (Deb), John Malicoat (Rosemary), and Cathy Harris (Dave); cousins Rhea Ann, Bobbi Jo, Robbie, Tammy, Glenda, Christy, and Jesse; nieces and nephews Racheal, Lilly, Megan, Kara, Jayden, Lani, Lucas, Paul, Dylan, Jacelin, Claudia, Clayton, Jude, Octavia, Callan, and Waylon; sisters in law Jaclyn Starkey (Thad), Barbara Thurston (Joe), Lynda Ellington (Troy), and Leora Gilliam (Earl).  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Georgie Lynn Elliott, and aunt Lynn Brown.
