Obituary

Nancy Dieter passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her daughters. She was born on June 20, 1946, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Mary and George Hein.

A lifelong learner and passionate educator, Nancy attended Indiana State University, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees. She dedicated over forty years to Special Education, shaping the lives of countless students in Yuma, Arizona, Illinois, and Indiana until her well-earned retirement in June 2018. Her commitment to her students reflected her deep belief in the power of education, patience, and kindness.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of thirty-nine years, Bert Dieter, with whom she built a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. She was a woman of boundless warmth and quiet strength, known for her quick wit, generous spirit, and deep care that she poured into her family and friends.

Nan found joy in life's simple pleasures—getting lost in a good book, cooking, and pouring her heart into projects. She was a constant source of love, encouragement, and wisdom, always showing up with an open heart and a listening ear.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Katie Dieter and Molly Washatka (Grady), who will forever carry her love and lessons forward. She was a proud and doting Nana to Wyatt and Willow Washatka, who brought her endless joy. Nancy is also survived by her beloved mother, Mary Beshaw, and her cherished brothers and sisters, along with a host of extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.

In her final years, Westminster Village became more than just a place to live—it became home. Nancy found comfort, friendship, and compassionate care within its community. The kind and devoted staff at Westminster made an immeasurable impact on her life, treating her with warmth, dignity, and genuine kindness every step of the way. Her family is profoundly grateful for the love and support she received from both the residents and staff, who made Westminster a place filled with laughter, connection, and care.

Nancy's life was a testament to love, dedication, and kindness. Though she has left this world, her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
