Obituary

On March 27th Paul David Schumpert, beloved brother, uncle and friend passed away after a brief illness. Paul lived a life of integrity and service, touching the lives of many with his kindness and grace. He may have been the shyest person in the room, but he was always the funniest.

Paul was preceded in death by his much-loved brother Lamar Schumpert and his brother-in-law Bob Thompson. He is survived by his sister Donna Thompson of Pinehurst, NC who adored him. He leaves behind nephews Steve Trego (Courtney) and Steve Roth, and nieces Elizabeth Roth and Janie Trego (Michael Pfister). They will always remember the wonderful times growing up with Uncle Paul and will miss him dearly. His great-nephews Jack and Will Pfister and Murphy Trego and his great-niece Tatum Trego all feel blessed to have spent many years with him.

Paul was born in 1943 in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Terre Haute as a teenager. After serving in the US Army in the 1960s, he graduated with a degree in education from Indiana State University. He spent most of his teaching career at Covington Elementary, being a favorite of the students and staff. Paul was a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan whose mood could be predicted by whether they won or lost. Another passion in his life was for animals. He never met a dog he didn't like and was devoted to his retriever Lexi.

Paul traveled extensively in the last ten years of his life. He cherished the Southwest and loved cruising the Caribbean. Switzerland was Paul's favorite place on Earth.

Paul was generous and sweet. He loved working for Catholic charities every Thursday, especially the time spent with his dear friends at the soup kitchen. If anyone would like to honor Paul, we would ask that you donate to your local animal shelter or church. Be kind and leave the world a better place like our Paul did.

A remembrance pf Paul's life will be announced at a future date.
