Robert L. Payton, 94, of Terre Haute passed away Friday December 16, 2016 at 9:24 am in Union Hospital. He was a maintenance supervisor for Pillsbury. Robert was born July 25, 1922 in Terre Haute to George and Edith Payton. He is survived by his children, Joyce Truxel, Debbie Kerr, Mary Sadowski, Vickie Aldridge, Teresa Kelling, Richard Payton, and David Payton; 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a long-time friend, Dorothy Grigsby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Payton who died May 24, 2000, his parents; sons, Michael Payton and Robert Payton, Jr. and a brother, Wayne Payton. Robert was a veteran of the US Navy, he enjoyed dancing at the Moose Lodge, he liked inventing things, and playing softball and horseshoes. He was also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #841. There will be a Celebration of Life Thursday December 22, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. in Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Pastor Herbert Wrate will be officiating. Per Robert's request, cremation is scheduled.
