Rodney “Dode” Hacquet, age 72, passed away October 20,2026 at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana after a brief batter with cancer, with his daughter by his side.

He was born June 12, 1954, and grew up on Lafferty Hill in Westville, Illinois. Dode was the second born son of the late John and Beverly Atwood Hacquet.

Dode graduated from Westville High School in 1972. He was a jack of all trades and could MacGyver any part to fix something. He was an operating engineer for many years and later went on to drill water wells. His family fondly remembers him “watching” for water. He enjoyed fishing on his 9-acre pond in which he made in the early 1990’s. Dode was a smart man who even developed a bow sight that has a U.S. Patent.

Dode was vocal in what he believed in, and his legacy of humor, perseverance and learning will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit enthused with curiosity and reliance. He will greatly be missed and forever remembered.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Robbie Beth; two uncles that were his world; Firman Hecquet and Roland M. Atwood.

He is survived by his loving daughter Alicia Lynch- Deatherage (Roger), three grandchildren Levi Lynch, Cali Lynch and Zoey Deatherage; one great-grandchild Delilah Womack who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by two brothers Bob Hacquet (Laura) and John Hacquet (Julia); a niece, three nephews, and many extended family members who will deeply miss him.

As per his wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Dode’s life and legacy. Samaritan Funeral Home was entrusted with cremation.
