Stanley Dominic Penning, 81, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026.

Stanley served in the US NAVY aboard the Henry L. Stimson submarine SSBN655 from 1966-1966. He served in the NAVY for 4 years. Post service Stanley worked on Johnston Island incineration facility for chemical weapon dismantling southwest of Hawaii. He finished his career and retired from working at Newport Chemical depot in Clinton, Indiana.

He was born on August 13, 1945; to Julius John Penning and Mary Ann Antionette (Klein) Penning in LeMars, Iowa. Stanley previously was married to Sandra Ann Full on October 8, 1966. Stanley and Sandra had two children, Robert Alan Penning and Jacqueline Marie Penning. He is survived by Robert Alan Penning's children Megan Rathmann, Dalton Penning (wife) Nicole Jenke, Kurstin Penning (husband) Alex, Austin Penning, Ethan Penning, Jacqueline Marie (Penning) DeVore and Husband Jeff DeVore and children; Cody Willis (wife) Skylar, Courtney (Willis) Reed, (husband) Ty, and Amanda Holler (husband) Matthew, as well as great-grandchildren.

Siblings: Joellen Penning, Thomas Penning (wife) Nancy, Alan Penning, Duane Penning (wife) Teresa, Judith Kirschaum (husband) Frank, Mary Kay Fry (husband) Steve, Julius (Jay) Penning (husband) Manuel, Junell Grady (husband) Steve, Pamela Plathe (husband) Kevin, Therese Jungers (husband) Kenneth, Suzanne Plathe (husband) Reed, and many nieces and nephews.

Stan was preceded in death by both parents; son Robert; brothers Merlin and Conrad.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved having his 1955 Chevy Bel Air. Stanley was a proud veteran of The United States Navy. He was also very proud of his involvement in AA being sober for 43 years and spending time as a sponsor for younger and numerous members.
