Stanley Leon Scully, 85 of Terre Haute, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. He was born in Paxton, IN, on November 20, 1930, to Eddie Scully, Sr. and Mildred Jeffords Scully. He was an active member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan. He is survived by one son, Jeffrey Scully, and two daughters, Jeanine Utterback (husband David), and JoAnna Gonzales (husband Ray). Also surviving are five grandchildren; Caleb Utterback (wife Brooke), Eliot Utterback, Lucy Utterback, Caitlin Scully, and RaeAnna Gonzales as well as a sister, Shirley Landes, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Mary Catherine Ferguson, Eddie Scully, Jr., and Gene Scully. Stanley graduated from Sullivan High School in 1948 and then served in the United State Air Force during the Korean War. Stanley retired from Alcan Aluminum Corporation where he had worked 35 years as a maintenance technician/supervisor. Following retirement, Stanley was the Pro Shop manager at the Sullivan Elks Golf Course and enjoyed mentoring many high school students on the Sullivan golf teams. He was a member of the "Rinky Dinks" golf club and achieved two holes-in-one during his golf career. He was a member of the Sullivan American Legion Post #139. Stanley enjoyed spending time with his family. One of his favorite past times was having a bowl of potato soup and watching a Cubs game with his grandchildren. As the #1 Sullivan Arrows fan, he could be found watching the weekend football and basketball games at the high school with his nephew, Jay Ferguson. Those who were blessed to know Stanley, knew that you could never have asked for a better Dad, Papaw, Uncle, or friend. He loved everyone, and everyone loved him!
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Sullivan Elks, 600 W. Wolfe St., from 4:00-8:00 P.M., with a memorial service at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution to the Sullivan High School Athletic Booster Club. Arrangements are under the direction of Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave, Terre Haute, IN.
