Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tammy Jo Carrell-Rush, who peacefully left us at her home on August 1, 2024.

Tammy was born on December 5, 1964, in Linton, Indiana, to Earlene Sue Carrell and Eddie Howard Griffith.

She was a graduate of Worthington-Jefferson High School, class of 1982, proudly proclaiming "'82 all the way!"

She went on to study nursing at Vincennes University (VU), showcasing her compassion and dedication to helping others.

In 2016, Tammy married the love of her life, Richard E. Rush, on April 19.

She was a devoted mother to her children: Roy Chance Thompson (Jaime Thompson), Trevor Earl Thompson (Trina Thompson), and Jaeni Marie Lundy (John Ruggles).

Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Roy Raideyn Thompson, Brylee Athena Thompson, Lenoxx Mark Thompson, Bear Orion Thompson, Wilder Link Thompson, Trefon Davis Thompson, Triton Gregory Thompson, and Xander Ray McCutchen.

Tammy was a woman of many passions. She loved having her fingernails painted and had an exceptional green thumb, nurturing her plants with care. She enjoyed swimming, dancing, music, and being outdoors, embodying a free spirit. Above all, she cherished her time with her family and grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love and joy.

Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, and she leaves behind her loving sisters: Janet Carrell-Harris (Randy Harris), Donna Nelson Egenolf (GJ Egenolf), Tracey Surber (Bengi Surber), and Samantha Daggy, and many nieces and nephews.

In the words of one of her favorite songs:

"It's late in the evening

She's wondering what clothes to wear

She puts on her make up

And brushes her long blonde hair

And then she asks me, 'Do I look alright?'

And I say, 'Yes, you look wonderful tonight.'"

Tammy's family takes comfort in the following tribute:

"A million times I've needed you, a million times I've cried, if love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still. In my heart, you hold a place, no one else can ever fill. It broke my heart to lose you, but you didn't go alone. Part of me went with you, the day God took you home."

Tammy's presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
