Thomas James “TJ” Allen, 69 of Terre Haute, IN, gained his wings Saturday morning Aug 29, 2026 at Union Hospital surrounded by his siblings and children. He was born on April 6, 1957 in Terre Haute, IN to Emerson Leo Allen, Sr. and Rosetta “Mama Rose” (Walden) Allen.
TJ received his education through the Terre Haute School System and began employment at an early age, becoming one of Tribune Stars top sellers, selling newspapers in downtown Terre Haute, where he was very popular with his selling technique “Hey! You wanna buy a paper?” Later in life he served in the Army and thereafter as a “Detailer” for Esten Fuson for several years. TJ’s skillset was limitless. He mastered several crafts such as carpentry, mechanics, electrician, plumber and framework. He could do it all.
His greatest pastime was cooking, eating, watching scary movies, playing pool and sitting outside his home and talking with his neighbors. He enjoyed cooking and sharing his meal with whomever needed it and his neighbors would return the favor by sending him plates of food and pies and cakes.
TJ is survived by his eight children. Sons, Jonathan Allen (Erica), Dallas Texas, Brandon Christopher Claude Allen, Chicago IL, Antone O’Neal Allen (Stephanie) Terre Haute, IN; daughters, Amber Marie Crowder (Archie), Indianapolis IN, Tiffany Cherille Allen, Phoenix AZ, Samone Marie Allen (Justyn Rhyne), Nicole Ann Allen and Loren Lacey Allen all of Elkhart IN., 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by five siblings. Brothers, Anthony Walden and Eric Morris Walden of Terre Haute IN. brother, Emerson Leo Allen Jr. (Mary) of Indianapolis IN, sisters, Helen Cozzetta Allen of Terre Haute, IN and Rosetta Ingram (James) of Evansville IN. A special mention of his lifetime brother/friend Donnie Haggerty and close neighbor Donald Hayes.
Proceeding him in death were his parents and brother Phillip Howard Allen.
Per his request, there will be no funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday Sept 26, 2026 from 2:00-6:00 pm at the Cove, 3101 Schaal Ave. Terre Haute. IN 47803. Family and friends are welcome to come share a meal and your fond memories.
