Valerie J. Gammie Steele of Terre Haute passed away July 22, 2016 at 7:42 pm at the age of 54. She went peacefully in her daughter's home with loved ones by her side after a yearlong battle with cancer. Valerie worked as a housekeeper for ISU for 17 years before retiring in 2015. Valerie loved to spend time with her family, play billiards and sing karaoke. Valerie is survived by two daughters and a son; Bonnie Howard of Terre Haute, Jenevieve Rosas and her husband Omar Rosas of Terre Haute, and Howard Dickerson, Jr. and his wife Ashley Dickerson of Terre Haute. Valerie is also survived by two sisters, Marsha Shanks and her husband Tony of Terre Haute and Roni Lewis and her companion James Smith of Brazil. Valerie had 10 grandchildren, three nieces, one great nephew, five great nieces and her dog, Karma. Visitation will be Thursday July 28, 2016 from 1:30 until 3:30 pm in Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave with funeral services at 3:30 pm in the funeral home with Chaplain Bruce Mentzer officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery.
