Obituary

Velma "Belma" Marie Cox, 67, of Terre Haute went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 3, 2022.  She was born January 16, 1955, in Holly Springs, Mississippi to Johnnie B. Brown and Lou Creatia Reliford-Brown.

At the tender age of 15, Velma became a prayerful servant and a member of the congregation at Calvary Baptist Church of Holly Springs, MS. Velma attended St. Mary's High School in Holly Spring, Mississippi. She played the flute as a member of its marching band. Velma also enjoyed competitions in which she was a star athlete in the track and field arena.

As an adult, Velma moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. She was employed with CBS Records for several years. Velma was known to be a sophisticated lady and she took great pride in her appearance and loved her gorgeous self and sexy lingerie.

Above that, she was a beloved mother and grandmother.  Her family was her greatest joy and biggest accomplishment.  Although only one of her children (Tony) called her "Mom," she was affectionately referred to by her other children as "Bam" (by Tanya), "Missy" (by Zundra) and "Pig" (by Lance).

Later in life, Velma relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she met her late husband Aaron Cox and they together traveled around the United States and Canada before he transcended into the heavenly gates in 2018. Velma loved spending time with her family, caring for her three dogs (Pepsi, Memphis, and Hennessy), listening to R&B and Gospel music, and working crossword puzzle books. She enjoyed watching T.V. and never wanted to miss an episode of Law & Order.  One of her all-time favorite snacks was Pepsi and peanuts.

Velma is survived by her children Tanya "Lady" Isom-Davis, Lance "Geesey" Isom (Danielle), and Antonio "Tony" Royston, grandchildren Dominick Isom, LaShaundra "Fat" Moore, Makieko "Stink" Isom, Jezreel Isom, Kaliegha Rush, and Ka'Mya "Turkey" Isom. Velma's siblings are Shirley "Aunt Mae" Shelton of Indianapolis, IN, Johnny B. "Ted" Brown, Jr. (Joyce) of Holly Springs, MS, Robert "Pook" Brown (Barbara) of Terre Haute, IN, Patricia "Blondie" Black of Indianapolis, IN, Quintin "Mane Mane" Brown of Holly Springs, MS, Sharon B. "Boo Boo" Gulledge of Memphis, TN, Clifford "Doochie" Brown (Sheran) of Holly Springs, MS, Odell "Thuda" Johnson, Jr., Doris "Dee" Johnson Bailey (Clinton), and Dwayne "Monk" Johnson of Memphis, TN, plus several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Aaron Cox, and daughter Zundra "Worm" Moore.
