Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Rose Hill, age 84 of Terre Haute, Indiana. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 20, 2026 at Southwood Healthcare Center, where she had been a resident and well-loved for the past 5 years. Virginia was born on February 20, 1942 to Mary Ellen (Riggs) House and Virgil Adren House.

Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister. Those who knew her well, knew that all it took was one smile to make your entire day. She loved her family and friends and has impacted many lives over the years. She was a cook at several different restaurants over the span of about 6 decades or more. She worked at Grandma Joy’s, Thompson’s Truck Stop, and retired from David’s Café 63. Everyone loved her cooking and baking and would be elated if she happened to share a recipe or two. It was her joy to bake a cake or a pie for someone’s birthday or Christmas.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and father of her two children, Ronald Jay Pershing, second husband, Jimmie Hill, and companion, Herbert Wilson. Two brothers: Robert Eugene (Gene) House, and John Leroy House. Two sisters: Helen Louise (Shassere) Turner and Rebecca Ann Snow. Two great-granddaughters: Makenzie Rose Jones and Savannah Michelle Parker, Baby Love and her grand-dogs, Thunder Delilah.

She is survived by her two children: Mary Kristina Evinger (Larry) and John Adren Pershing. One sister, Elizabeth J. Badger and one brother, Rick Shassere. Eight grandchildren: Lindsy Jones (Eric), Ronnie Pershing, Jon Pershing, Brandon Pershing (Alexis), Brandee Love (Stephen), Dakota Caldwell, Heather Godert (Dale), and Ashley Holt. Nine great-grandchildren: Hannah Jones, Eric Jones Jr, Vincent Parker Jr, Jayden Myers, Kaylynn Myers, Alexander Myers, Rowin Caldwell, Luke Caldwell, Lillie Caldwell, and her grand-dog, Ruby.

Visitation will be held at Samaritan Funeral Home on Monday, July 27, 2026 from 11 am to 1 pm with service beginning at 1 pm officiated by Pastor Mike Pringle. Online condolences may be made at www.samaritanfunerals.com
