William Bryant
Dunfee
April 5, 1953 – October 11, 2023
William "Billy" B. Dunfee, 70, of Poland, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his home on October 11, 2023 surrounded by family.
William was born on April 5, 1953 to William G. and Bette (Matrinetz) Dunfee, in Sendai Honshu, Japan.
William was raised in Highland, Indiana and graduated from Highland High School. After high school, he spent a brief amount of time in the military and then went on to work in the steel mill. He was also an ice cream man and a cabinet maker. In his later years, he worked as a forklift operator at Heartland Automotive for over a decade, then spent eight years as a fuel attendant before retiring from Swifty gas station in Greencastle, Indiana in 2015.
William enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, reptiles, and attending Alcoholics Anonymous ("AA") meetings. He was a strong believer in God and the twelve-step program. William was proud to have spent the last 26 years of life sober and helping others, one day at a time.
William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bette Dunfee, and brother David Dunfee. He is survived by his daughter April Dunfee and husband Jonathan Thornton, his daughter Amanda Dunfee and husband Edward Knox, his brothers Edward, James, and Charles Dunfee, his sister Deborah Dunfee, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, ex-wife and lifelong friend Connie Darlene Dunfee.
Although health issues made William's body tired and weak, in his heart he was happy, joyous, and free.
A celebration of life will be hosted by family and announced at a later time.
