William R. Hite, 101, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday March 19, 2017 at 1:11 pm in his residence. William was an electrician for Mobile Oil Refinery in Chicago and had owned several gas stations in California. He was born August 9, 1915 in Terre Haute to Lorenzo Dowell Hite and O'Tilley (Kalin) Hite. He is survived by his wife Marguerite (Forbes) Hite with whom he just celebrated 79 years of marriage on January 16. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Ron Jennings (Erma) of Shelbyville, IL, Pam "Pammy SueSue" Irwin and Leora Sumner both of California. Judy Chamness of Terre Haute, Mike Roberts of Eden, NC, Nancy Novak of Virginia Beach, VA, Tillie Powers of Lewis, IN, and Betty Borders of Jasonville. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Beulah Jennings, Emma Schneble, and Leona Jones. William was a US Navy Seabees during WWII and was a 75 year member of the Santa Barbara Lodge #192 F&AM. Visitation will be Wednesday March 22, 2017 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in Samaritan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. with masonic memorial services at 1:00 pm in the funeral home provided by West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge #687 F&AM. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery with military honors provided at the graveside.
