Wilma Rascoe, 89, passed away Aug. 31, 2018 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, with nephew Claude, his wife Tonya, and their daughter Chasity Archer at her side. She was born in Youngstown, Indiana, the youngest daughter of Harry A. Hudson and Emma Cecile (Welch) Hudson.
She graduated from Riley High School, class of 1946. She located to Florida in 1961 and returned to Indiana in 2012. She retired from Southern Bell (AT&T), was a lifetime member of VFW Post 8207 Longwood Ladies Auxiliary where she served as president, and also district president of Auxiliary 10108 in Sanford, Florida. She was one of the founders of the USS Noa Reunion Organization, serving as secretary since 1992. She was a former member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake Helen, Florida, and currently a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ in Terre Haute.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucille West, two infant sisters, and husbands Charles (Shorty) Bennett, James Purtell, and Elmer Rascoe; nephews Clyde A. West and Robert E. West.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and their families Jeanne Berkley, Melissa Everhart (Mike), Claude A. West (Tonya) and Paul M. West (Diana), and several step children.
Wilma had chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark United Christian Church, 475 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, at 11:00 am on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 with Rev. Teresa Higus officiating. Burial at Highland Lawn Cemetery; no graveside service. Cremation arrangements made by Samaritan Funeral Home.
