Amanda Sue “Mandi” Frear, 56, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday April 16, 2025 in Gibson Family Hospice Center. She was born November 10, 1968 in Terre Haute, Indiana and was raised by Gertrude Coleman, who loved and cared for her for many years. She had worked as a Lab Technician for Eli Lilly. Mandi is survived by her loving sister, Kim Deal and her husband Bob; three beloved nephews, Zackary, Tylor, and Brandyn and her best friend of many years, Stacey Holley. She loved going to concerts and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Mandi was full of life and a unstoppable force of nature. Her nephew Zackary wrote the following tribute for his Aunt Mandi:
We said goodbye to my aunt Amanda S. Frear last night in Terre Haute. At only 57 years old, she passed peacefully this morning with my mother Kim Coleman Deal by her side. Aunt Mandi was an exceptional woman. Born with spina bifida, she lived her entire life confined to a wheelchair. Although her soul was plucked from the universe and placed in this body broken from the start, it never tarnished her brilliant spirit. She was unbothered by most things. Quick witted, hilarious and full of unconditional love for her family and friends.
She raised my brothers and me. She lived with us from my birth until age 10 or 11. She was a 2nd maternal figure in my life. Always so gentle and caring. I’ll take with me to my grave the memory of her pulling herself out of her wheelchair and up onto the kitchen counter to root through the cabinets whenever we said we were hungry.
She crafted and molded my spirit, leaving her impact on me and my life in a way that could never be undone. Aunt Mandi truly showed me to myself as I was growing up and gave me pieces of myself that I still carry to this day. Anyone who loves me, by extension, also loves her, whether they’re aware of it or not.
I’d be remiss not to honor my mother Kim, who executed Mandi’s wishes and traversed the pain and sorrow of saying goodbye to your only surviving relative. Mom, the care you gave Aunt Mandi was world class and unfathomable by most. You honored her, her body and her spirit in a way very few of us will ever have the privilege of knowing. I love you so much and thank you.
