Betty Blackburn Obituary

Betty J. Blackburn, 94, formerly of rural North Terre Haute, Indiana, died on May 11, 2022.  Betty was born on December 27, 1927 in Johnston City, Illinois, to Grace Sherman Boner and Coyle Boner. She had four siblings, Juanita Nation, Dave Boner, Van Boner, all deceased and Virginia (Jenny) Costa.

On December 23, 1948 Betty married Bob Blackburn who preceded her in death.  She is survived by her children, Gary (Kaye) Blackburn, Kathy Blackburn Plant (Pete), Bernie Blackburn (Cathy), and Bobby Blackburn (Beth, deceased).

Betty is survived by seven grandchildren, Amy Rosselli, Jesse Plant, Emily Linder, Rachel Jackson, Eric Blackburn, Bryan Blackburn.  Betty had one grandchild that preceded her in death, Heather Beel.  She also has 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Most of Betty’s life was lived in Northern Vigo County as a housewife and mother.  She and her husband Bob enjoyed boating on local rivers and lakes.  She attended Spring Creek Community Church and served the Lord by singing.  Music and singing was a big part of her life and during her last days she went out of this world singing and no doubt singing to Jesus now.  She especially liked to write poetry for her family and friends.  She also loved old movies and musicals and especially John Wayne movies.  She was a coffee and pie kind of lady; she loved her coffee!  Of late, she had attended Berean Bible Church.  Betty graduated from Otter Creek High School in 1945 and worked for a short time at Quaker Maid.
