Billy Joe Hickenbotham, also known as “Turbo” or “Johnny Cash”, 66, died January 29, 2023 at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care from an extended lung illness. He was born September 21, 1956, to Richard Lee and Carol Virginia (Kirkman) Hickenbotham.
Billy graduated from South Vigo High School class of 1974. Following graduation, Billy served active duty with the US Navy from 1974 to 1977, then Naval Rescue until 1979. Directly after the Navy, Billy joined the Terre Haute Fire Department, where he was a firefighter for 15 years, then moved to Fire and EMS Dispatch until 1997.
Billy was a member of the Krietenstein American Legion Post 104. Billy loved to play pool and loved a good game of Skipbo or Texas Hold ‘em.
Billy was preceded in death by his father Richard Lee Hickenbotham, stepmother Mildred Louise (Krackenberger) Hickenbotham, his biological mother Carol Virginia (Kirkman) Craft and grandparents on both sides.
Billy is survived by his son Mathew Hickenbotham and wife Kristiana of Terre Haute, his daughter Samantha Rennick and husband Jeremy of Terre Haute, grandkids Nicholas, Jackson, and Ariana, his brother Randy (Marti) Hickenbotham, his brother Dennis (Kay) Krackenberger, his sister GayLynn (Norman) Winter, his brother Joe (Gen) Craft, his sister Carla Humphrey and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no visitation or services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, of which family and friends will be notified.
