Charles Owen “Dink” Willett, age 79, of Terre Haute, IN, transitioned on November 20, 2025, at Westminster Village in Terre Haute. He was born in Morganfield, KY, on July 19, 1946, to Ora and Sylvester Willett. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Sue (“Baby Cakes”); his brothers Benny, Nathan, Sylvester Jr., Robert, and James; his sisters Melvina, Louise, and Jane; and his beloved niece, Regina Smith. He is survived by his three children: Carlos of St. Petersburg, FL; Jacqueline of Indianapolis, IN; and Chad (Chris) of Terre Haute, IN. After serving honorably in the U.S. Navy for four years, Charles (“Dink”) moved his family from Morganfield, KY, to Terre Haute, IN, in 1969 to work for PSI, now Duke Energy. He had the distinction of being one of the first African American linemen in Vigo County. He remained employed there until his retirement around 2000. Dink will be remembered for the love and dedication he had for his family, his work, and his friends. He never met a stranger and was known for his generosity and outgoing personality. He was admired for his optimism, positivity, and infectious sense of humor. He was also active in the Freemasons and several community organizations. Services for Dink will be held at Samaritan Funeral Cremations, located at 2425 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN. Visitation will be on November 29, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST, followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m. A repass will be held after the service at a venue to be announced. On Monday, December 1, 2025, Dink will be interred with military honors at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Morganfield, KY, at 11:00 a.m. CT.
