Curtis Clem Obituary

Curtis D. Clem, 81, of Shelburn, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home, April 29, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Danville, Illinois, the eldest son of Robert D. Clem and Virginia (Pittman) Clem in March of 1941. Following graduation from Danville High School he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sharon J. (Simons) Clem. Together their family grew with the birth of two sons, Brett in 1961 and Darren in 1967. Curtis had a dedicated career in the coal mining industry starting at Ayrshire Colleries Danville, Illinois, Harmattan Mine as a 2nd shift welder and 28 years later, retiring mine manager from AMAX Coals Minnehaha Mine in Dugger, Indiana. Through the fruits of their labor, Curt and Sharon settled in to the home they loved in Shelburn, Indiana. Nestled among the trees, curt enjoyed watching the wildlife, roaming the woods on his golf cart, operating his Kubota tractor, target shooting one of his many Henry Rifles, and gathering with his family. There was never a greater father. He was a grandfather, great grandfather, leader, mentor, and friend to many. The stories he told, laughter he shared, and guidance he gave will be forever carried in the hearts of those who’s lives he touched. Curt was preceded in passing by his parents, two brothers, Robert “Bobby” L. Clem and Kelly G. Clem. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, his sons and adopted daughters, Brett Clem (Nita) of Sullivan and Darren Clem (Missy) of Merom Station; his close canine companion, “Miles”; grandchildren, Brandon, Jared, Holly, Cayden, and Montana; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Joshua, Riley, Aliya, and Zach and adopted grandchildren, Bettie, Havyn, and Eva. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Lower Mound Cemetery in Covington, Indiana. The family would like to thank Dr. Eric heath, Dr. Pardip Patel, Registered Nurses, Crystal Strange, Carrie Irwin, Cheryl Ballad, and Aides of Viaquest Hospice.
