It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Eugene Brown, who left us peacefully on September 25, 2024. Born in 1939 to Eugene T. Brown and Julia M. Brown, Don was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose spirit touched the lives of many.
Don always fondly remembered attending Gerstmeyer Tech for high school, where he honed his skills in boxing, acting, radio, and speech. He was a graduate of Indiana State University, with focused studies in printing technologies and communications. Don served honorably in the Air Force, where he developed a sense of duty and camaraderie that would stay with him throughout his life. After his service, he worked many years at the local newspaper, putting his printing skills to good use and earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His years after working at the Tribune Star included teaching at Ivy Tech, Art Direction at a sports merchandise company in Florida, and security for the Air National Guard base, where he worked until his retirement.
A man of many talents, Don was an accomplished artist and had a deep affection for animals. His creativity shone through in his artwork, and his home was often filled with laughter and joy for his beloved pets. He was known for his humor, as well as his generosity and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word to those in need.
Don also found joy in music, singing in the church choir for many years, where his warm voice and genuine spirit uplifted everyone around him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet; son, Tim (Shawyna) Brown; daughters, Julie Lombardi, Jennifer (Scott) Kaufman, and Angie Fulford; 9 grandchildren, and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory. A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (www.theaftd.org) or the Humane Society of Indiana (www.humaneindiana.org).
Donald’s warmth, humor, and kindness will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 12, at 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 1845 N. 6 1/2 Street, Terre Haute. Samaritan Funeral Home was entrusted with cremation.
