Francis “Tug” M. Tarwater, 99, of Terre Haute passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025. He was born February 6, 1926, in Oaktown, Indiana to William Tarwater and Hazel Conway Tarwater.
Tug was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII in Africa and Italy 1943 to 1946. He was awarded the Eame Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Ribbon on May 6, 1946. Tug received honorable discharge from the Army. He married Betty Jean McPike on July 5, 1946, and they spent 54 years together before her passing. Tug worked for Hulman & Company for 45 years, retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his children Greg Tarwater (Mary Ann), Pat Tarwater (Debra), Mike Tarwater (Linda), Mary Eslinger, and Diana Cottrell, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. Tug was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Betty, son Jackie Lee Tarwater, and several siblings.
Visitation will be held on Monday October 13, 2025, at Samaritan Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Roselawn Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. Online condolences may be made to www.samaritanfunerals.com.
