Frederick Lee Melvin Obituary

Frederick Lee Melvin, 69, of Terre Haute died at 11:24 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

He retired from Chesty Foods in Terre Haute after 38 years of service and was currently an usher for Hulman Center, which he had done for the past 25 years.

He was born May 21, 1936, in Terre Haute to Clarence Melvin Sr. and Leola Wright Melvin.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Coy Melvin, whom he married Aug. 16, 1958, in the Sacred Heart Rectory in Terre Haute; a daughter, Mary L. Kennedy and her husband, Bill; a son, David S. Melvin; and a grandson, Xavier Frederick Melvin, who was the light of his life; three sisters, Mary Douglas, Della Fagg and her husband, Kenny, and Darlene Griffin; two brothers, Gail Melvin and his wife, Lois, and Jack Melvin; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Clarence Melvin Jr., Donald "Bub" Melvin, Ernest Melvin and Charles Melvin; and three nephews, Walter Melvin, Donald Douglas and Jimmy Douglas.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Of Jesus Parish in Terre Haute. After retirement, he also worked as a handyman for Coldwell-Banker Larry Helman Realty for the past several years. He was a Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 104 and Teamsters Local No. 135.

A visitation will be held on Friday May 16, 2025, from 10 am to 11 am at Samaritan Funeral Home, with a service starting at 11 am.


A joint burial for Fred and Sharon will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery, with military honors for Fred.
