James David Abernathy Obituary

James “Jim” David Abernathy, 63, lifelong resident of Fountain County passed away on June 18, 2025 at 11:00 in the evening.  Jim was born on March 6, 1962 in Danville, Illinois to Dave Abernathy and Jean (Maines) Abernathy.  He graduated Covington High School in 1981.


Jim worked for many farmers over the years and the Town of Veedersburg as a maintenance person.  He enjoyed going to Amish auctions and selling flowers from his front yard.  Jim also enjoyed spending Friday evenings at the Veedersburg sale barn and hanging out with his buddies.


Jim is survived by his ex-wife Connie (Cox) Abernathy; his buddy Deaton Cox; sister-in-law Pam Abernathy; nieces Angela Herman (Jim), Lori Abernathy, Melanie Reissmann (Wayne), Melissa Roberts (Bill), Brandi Moss (Chris Spear); many great nieces and nephews; and many special friends – Jim never met a stranger.


Jim is preceded in death by both of his parents; brother Gary Abernathy; sister Ramona Strawser; and nephew Rodney Strawser.


A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025 at State Street Bar & Grill in Kingman, Indiana starting at 1:00 PM.  Private burial will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington, Indiana.
