James Ray Lance Sr., 81, passed away on April 24, 2025. He was born on May 1, 1943 in Paris, IL to Loice Lance and Ruby (Louis) Todd. James was an avid NCAA Basketball fan. He was known for coaching many youth leagues in Terre Haute, including basketball, baseball, and football. James was also active in the Silent Men’s Club, and he was a 32nd degree Mason.

He is survived by his children James Lance Jr. (Linda), Scott Lance, special friend Linda Moore, grandchildren J. Matthew Lance (Rachael), Christopher Lance, Danielle Kimbel (Kaiden), and Gretchen Lance; great-grandchildren Brooklyn Lance, Everly Lance, and Mason Lance; sister Shirley Lovestat, and brother Bob Lance.

He is preceded in death by his wife Gloria Lance, both parents, and siblings Suer Cooper, Helen Stevenson, and Martha Bowman.
